Home: Part 5

Back to the home theme . . . Part 5!
Part 1 here
Our journey to home #5 came in the middle of an emotional season, a financially stressful season, yet a season full of hope.
In many ways the details of home number 5 were a miracle.
Family has reached out to us by graciously allowing this to be our home for this "particular time".
This home, like all homes, serves a purpose.
I think this home is serving a purpose greater than we even realize.
It's a home we are trying to rest in.
It's a home we are trying to seek out direction for the future in.
It's a home we are laughing in, crying in, wrestling in, digging deep in, singing in, playing in, and learning in.
Like the homes that came before it, it's a home with many firsts.
First time to step out and see corn in every direction.
First time to not have neighbors.
That sentence may be debated by some but if I can't go borrow an egg and leave my kids alone in the house while doing that then I don't know if that's called a neighbor by webster's definition. HA!
First time to have a home without ANY cribs.
First time to have critters come visit that aren't cats and dogs.
First time to have TWO students in the house - one 7 year old student and one 34 year old student.
First time for the twins to ride the bus.
First time for me to mow our lawn. (And I liked it.)
First time to have things in our yard that I have no idea what they are and what they are for.
First time to know that in 3 different directions we can be with family in 10 minutes.
First time to be LITERALLY snowed in. (x3)
With young kids, firsts are happening everyday in this home.

More than any other home we've lived in this one needed upgrading.
We've been doing that.
It's fun.
It's good for us.
Hopefully, it will be good for the next occupants of this home.
In the beginning, let's be honest, this home was ugly.
Our first walk through it we didn't walk out and say, "I want that home".
But when we walked in it after arriving with our Uhal we said, "WOW, this place looks different."
It keeps looking different.
Doors turned red.
Laundry lines and basketball goals got a fresh coat of paint.
Created a boundary line filled with mulch around the house to prepare for future plants.
Cracks filled.
Walls painted.
Flooring laid.
Simple Lighting changes.

Fall - Waiting for paint and some Plants

You can see the red doors.

In many of these before pics the cracks have been fixed and the DIRTY flooring had been pulled out.

In this home and on this yard we are getting to experience God, once again, in a unique way.
In this home we are, once again, bonding tighter as a family.
In this home we get to say things we've never said like, "Put your bikes in the bike barn." (That's what I'm calling it.)
Or "Daddy's driving truck today."
Or "There's another gopher hole."
In this home I get to have two pairs of rain boots and actually use them.
This home wasn't in our plan.
This home can feel like a detour.
Detours can be the thing that keeps you from a construction site or accident.
Detours can lead you to or by something beautiful and unexpected.
Detours can give you more time in the car just hanging out with one another.
Detours can have been on the map already, even though they are unexpected to you.
This home can feel like a detour.
We haven't driven away from this home yet.
We don't know when we will, but I'm sure those standing waving in our driveway this time will be family.
Though whatever home we are driving to may be exciting, waving back at them will be difficult and the tears will flow.
